basic keelboat sailing standard (ASA 101)

Always wanted to learn how to sail but not sure where to start? This is an American Sailing Association-accredited introductory course to sailing with no pre-requisites, perfect for beginners! This course allows you to skipper in the US and leads to the ASA's International Proficiency Certificate which lets you skipper in most European countries! Beginners are strongly encouraged to form their own crew of at least 4. This course covers one module.

TOTAL duration: 4 Days, INCLUSIVE OF:

- 4 days of sailing practicum and theory

Classes are held every fortnight from Thursday to Sunday provided we have 4 students.

Class size is up to 6.

CERTIFICATE SPECIFICATIONS:

  • Able to skipper a 20' - 27' sloop-rigged keelboat during the day, in light to moderate winds and sea conditions

  • This certificate allows you to skipper in the US.

More information on the course:

  • Pre-course study and on-the-water training sessions.

  • Written exam at the end of the course

  • Classes will be conducted on our boats (For more information on what our boats look like, refer to our Meet our Fleet page)

  • Successful candidates will receive an American Sailing Association certificate upon completion.

  • Students will then be eligible for the next course level of Basic Coastal Cruising Standard (ASA 103)

  • The course brings you one step closer towards the ASA's International Proficiency Certificate (IPC) which requires ASA101, ASA103 and ASA104.

    • The IPC allows you to skipper in the US and select *European countries.

* European countries include Belarus, Croatia, France, Greece, Poland, Portugal, Spain, Turkey

  • $700 for a Tioman sailing trip on top of ASA courses

  • $700 for a Bintan sailing trip on top of ASA courses

  • $700 for a Phuket sailing trip on top of ASA courses

 

Courses are conducted year-round.
